Windows 10 Good Practices
· Back Up: Back up your important data such as photos, documents etc on an external hard drive. Do this on a regular basis so you don’t lose anything if anything bad happens to your computer.
Disk Clean Up: Run the Disk Clean Up program every couple of months to get rid of any unnecessary stuff. It will delete the stuff you don’t need and free up space on your hard drive.
Recycle Bin: If you don’t want to keep adding stuff to the recycle bin when you want to delete something then just select the item and press “Shift + Del” and it will delete it without using the recycle bin.
Check your installed programs: If you look at what programs are installed and you see things that you don’t use, uninstall them. If you’re not sure what to uninstall you can always search online or just leave it. You can download a program called “Should I Remove It” for free and use that if you want. Here is a link: https://www.shouldiremoveit.com/index.aspx
Check Your Start Up Programs: If you right click on a blank bit of the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen and click on “Taskbar” a new window will pop up. If it says “More Details in the bottom left, click it and it will show you everything. Look at the headings and click on “Startup” You will see a list of everything that starts up when you turn on the computer. From here you can select a program and disable it if you want. Again, if you’re not sure you can just leave it.
Hard Drives: If your computer has an older HDD, seriously think about upgrading to an SSD especially for the operating system. It will dramatically improve the start-up time as well as making the computer run faster.
Restore Point: When you have your computer running at its best, create a restore point so if it starts to have problems you can go back to it.
